Classical Homeopathy
March 30, 2009 at 10:23 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentThere are many definitions out there for the term “Classical Homeopathy”. Some are quite broad, and others very narrow. In essence, it involves the use of only one remedy at a time, given in accordance to the instruction of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of Homeopathy.
The remedy is chosen based on a person’s totality of symptoms– emotional, mental, and physical. Constitutional case taking is quite thorough and involves discussion of both current and past symptoms. A homeopath will then take the information and put it together to paint a picture of the person and match this picture to the remedy that most closely fits. In this way, homeopathy is able to treat the whole person, rather than the disease.
Homeopathy is often described as “like cures like”. This is a good place to start, but it deserves a bit more explanation. If a person is ill, the remedy will cure the symptoms, in the healthy person, it will cause them. For example, when you cut up an onion, your eyes might water and burn and your nose might get stuffy. If you are having these symptoms independent of cutting an onion and you take homeopathic onion (Allium cepa), the symptoms will resolve.
